WEB DESK: BMW has unveiled the all-new 2027 iX4, a coupe-style electric SUV offering up to 828 kilometres of driving range, 400 kW fast charging and a high-performance variant producing 612 horsepower.
The iX4 is the third model in BMW’s Neue Klasse family, following the iX3 and i3. It shares much of its underlying technology with the iX3 but adopts a sportier design with a sloping roofline and a redesigned rear section.
The electric SUV is scheduled for a global launch in March 2027 with two variants, while the more powerful M60 xDrive will arrive later.
Three Variants, Up to 612 HP
BMW has announced three versions of the iX4, all equipped with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive.
The entry-level iX4 40 xDrive produces 374 hp, while the 50 xDrive delivers 469 hp. At the top of the range, the M60 xDrive produces 612 hp and 875 Nm of torque.
| Specifications | iX4 40 xDrive | iX4 50 xDrive | iX4 M60 xDrive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power | 374 hp | 469 hp | 612 hp |
| Torque | 520 Nm | 645 Nm | 875 Nm |
| 0–100 km/h | 5.6 seconds | 4.9 seconds | 3.9 seconds |
| Maximum WLTP range | 638 km | 828 km | 777 km |
| Drivetrain | AWD | AWD | AWD |
The M60 xDrive is the quickest version, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 240 km/h.
The figures are based on BMW’s European specifications, and some numbers, particularly for the M60, remain provisional.
Up to 828 KM Range and 400 kW Charging
Driving range is one of the biggest highlights of the new iX4.
The iX4 50 xDrive offers up to 828 km under the WLTP testing cycle, making it the longest-range version in the lineup.
It uses a 108.7 kWh usable battery and supports DC fast charging at up to 400 kW. BMW says a compatible charger can add as much as 387 km of WLTP-rated range in 10 minutes under ideal conditions.
The entry-level 40 xDrive uses a smaller 82.6 kWh battery and supports charging at up to 300 kW.
The iX4 is built around BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology and an 800-volt electrical architecture.
Its claimed range, however, should not be treated as guaranteed real-world mileage. Highway speeds, extreme temperatures, air conditioning use and individual driving habits can all reduce the distance covered on a single charge.
Coupe-Style Design Brings Better Aerodynamics
The iX4 follows BMW’s latest design language while setting itself apart from the iX3 with a more aerodynamic body.
At the front, it features BMW’s redesigned kidney grille and slim lighting elements. The roofline slopes towards the rear, where horizontal taillights and a spoiler complete the coupe-inspired look.
BMW claims a drag coefficient of 0.23, slightly better than the iX3’s 0.24.
The sportier shape also brings a practical trade-off. The iX4 offers 490 litres of luggage space, compared with 520 litres in the iX3.
An M Sport package is standard, while the flagship M60 receives additional design touches, including larger wheels, red brake calipers and distinctive yellow lighting elements.
Panoramic iDrive Leads the Cabin Technology
Inside, the iX4 features BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and information projected across the lower section of the windshield.
The system runs BMW Operating System X and includes an intelligent voice assistant.
Other features include a panoramic glass roof, an optional 3D head-up display and advanced driver-assistance technology.
In supported markets, the iX4 also offers hands-free highway driving at speeds of up to 85 mph, or around 137 km/h, subject to operating conditions.
BMW’s new Heart of Joy electronic control system manages key vehicle functions including acceleration, braking and handling.
Could the BMW iX4 Launch in Pakistan?
BMW has not announced any plans to introduce the iX4 in Pakistan.
However, its combination of long-range battery technology, strong performance and coupe-style design could make it a notable addition to Pakistan’s premium EV segment if it is eventually launched locally.
For now, the iX4 highlights BMW’s strategy of expanding its electric vehicle lineup beyond conventional SUV designs while competing on driving range, charging speed and performance.
