Blood cancer awareness walk organized by Himmel Pharma

LAHORE: The Department of Hematology at Sheikh Zayed Hospital organized a blood cancer awareness walk in collaboration with Himmel Pharmaceuticals. Executive Director and Chairman of Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Dr. Akbar Hussain, led the walk to highlight the importance of early diagnosis, available treatments, and collective efforts to fight blood cancer.

A large number of participants attended, including heads of departments, doctors, paramedical staff, students, and citizens from various walks of life. They carried placards and banners with messages promoting blood cancer awareness and encouraging timely medical consultation. The event also included interactive discussions, where participants shared experiences and learned about risk factors, warning signs, and lifestyle measures that can support patient recovery.

Prof. Dr. Mona Aziz Gilani, Dean of PGMI and Head of the Department of Hematology and Blood Bank, addressed the gathering. She emphasized that early detection of blood cancer can save lives and urged the public to consult specialists immediately if they notice any symptoms.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman Ahmad, Head of the Medicine Department, stated that modern research and treatment methods can significantly improve patient outcomes, but raising public awareness is indispensable. GM Himmel Pharma, Irfan Daud Butt, and Director Dr. Usman Amin Butt highlighted that Himmel Pharma prioritizes public health initiatives. They added that combating deadly diseases like blood cancer requires both treatment and public education.

Principal Prof. Ayesha Humayun, Dr. Hussain Farooq (AP Hematology Department), and Dr. Lubna Riaz (Head of Pediatrics Department) also addressed attendees. The speakers praised the media as a vital tool for spreading awareness and reaching a larger audience.

At the conclusion of the event, organizers distributed educational pamphlets and resource guides to all the participants. Sheikh Zayed Hospital plans to continue similar campaigns throughout the year, aiming to increase public knowledge, encourage early consultation, and ultimately reduce mortality rates associated.
