England’s former Test captain Ben Stokes has dismissed reports suggesting he could make an emergency return to the squad for the upcoming Ashes series against Australia, describing the claims as misleading.
According to the report, iPaper Sport had claimed that Stokes could consider returning for the Ashes under two conditions. However, Stokes responded on X, advising fans not to spend money to read the story.
Stokes said the headline was “completely misleading” and insisted there was no truth in the claim that he was considering a return for the Ashes.
The former England captain announced his retirement from international cricket in June 2026. His final international appearance came in a Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
Stokes remains closely associated with the 2019 Ashes, particularly his unforgettable unbeaten 135 at Headingley, which helped England secure a dramatic victory. He also played a key role in England’s 2019 World Cup triumph.
