BAHAWALPUR: Domestic air travel received a major boost on Friday as a private airline launched its first scheduled domestic flight to Bahawalpur Airport, marking the restoration of regular air connectivity between Karachi, Bahawalpur and Islamabad.
An inauguration ceremony was held at Bahawalpur Airport to welcome the airline’s first inbound flight from Karachi. Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza, airport officials, members of the district administration, and representatives from the business, industrial and social sectors attended the event.
The newly launched service will operate regular domestic flights connecting Karachi, Bahawalpur and Islamabad. After arriving in Bahawalpur, the inaugural aircraft continued its journey to Islamabad.
Air Connectivity Expected to Boost South Punjab’s Economy
Speakers at the ceremony described the resumption of domestic flights as a significant step for South Punjab, saying improved air connectivity would support regional development by making travel more accessible and efficient.
They said the new route is expected to facilitate business activity, attract investment, promote tourism and improve transportation links across the region.
Participants also called for an increase in flight frequency and the expansion of air services to other major cities, highlighting the growing demand for reliable domestic aviation.
Officials noted that better air connectivity would provide residents of South Punjab with safer, faster and more convenient travel options while strengthening the region’s economic and social development.
The launch of the private airline’s domestic operations was widely welcomed as an important milestone for Bahawalpur and the broader South Punjab region.
