NEW DELHI, October 21, 2026: Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming film ‘Udta Teer’ has run into trouble just days before its theatrical release, with authorities in Nepal denying permission for its public screening

Why Was the Film Banned in Nepal?

Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology reportedly refused permission for the film’s public screening following a review by the country’s Central Film Censor Board.

The decision was communicated to the film’s Nepali distributor, National Sign Group Nepal, through an official letter.

According to reports, authorities cited Section 8(3) of Nepal’s National Cinema Act, which restricts the screening of films considered potentially harmful to Nepal’s security, public order, relations with friendly countries or harmony among different communities.

However, the ministry’s letter reportedly did not specify which particular scene or element of Udta Teer led to the decision.

Observers have suggested that the film’s portrayal of tensions between India and Pakistan could be behind the restriction. However, authorities have not officially confirmed this as the reason.

Following the decision, Udta Teer will currently not be available for public theatrical screening in Nepal.
