KARACHI: Alleged interprovincial drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky was presented in court under police protocol without handcuffs.
According to sources, suspected drug trafficker Anmol Pinky was arrested earlier this morning and reportedly told officials during custody that she would “be released soon.” Later, the investigation police produced her at City Court under what appeared to be a protocol-like arrangement.
During the court appearance, Pinky was seen walking ahead confidently while the investigating officer followed behind her and even guided her through the way.
Sources said standard security SOPs were not followed during the appearance, as neither proper police security was present nor was the accused handcuffed. Pinky also reportedly used her lawyer’s mobile phone during the hearing and was seen joking and laughing with people inside the court premises.
Police had requested a 14-day physical remand from the court but failed to obtain it. The court instead granted initial custody of Anmol Pinky. Two cases have reportedly been registered against her.
Police allege that Pinky was involved in selling cocaine worth billions of rupees across Pakistan and have described her as not only one of the country’s biggest cocaine dealers but also a manufacturer.
However, questions have emerged over the treatment of such a high-profile suspect after she was brought to court without handcuffs and appeared completely relaxed and confident throughout the proceedings.
Sources further claimed that even during custody, Anmol Pinky had said she would soon be released, raising concerns over what is being described as a careless attitude toward handling highly sensitive suspects.
