ISLAMABAD: A three-day Content Development Workshop has commenced at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to develop high-quality, effective and modern teaching materials for the university’s academic programmes and strengthen the professional capabilities of faculty members.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said faculty professional development was key to improving the quality of education.
He said quality educational content was particularly important in the open and distance learning system, making it essential to develop effective teaching materials according to students’ needs, academic priorities and modern teaching requirements.
The vice chancellor further emphasised that continuous teacher training, awareness of modern teaching methodologies and enhancement of professional skills play an important role in improving the university’s academic standards.
The workshop has been organised by the Centre for Lifelong Learning. Its Director, Dr. Tooba Saleem, said the training aims to familiarise faculty members with modern techniques for developing quality teaching materials, unit development and effective academic writing.
She said participants were being provided with practical and technical knowledge for preparing teaching materials that are useful, comprehensive and aligned with contemporary educational requirements.
JICA representative Abid Gul said quality educational content was fundamental to the success of distance learning. Appreciating the initiative, he said such training activities help strengthen faculty competencies, improve teaching quality and facilitate the development of educational content in line with modern requirements.
On the first day, participants were introduced to course outlines, unit assignments and guidelines for unit writing. Practical exercises were also conducted on developing content for different units and finalising complete unit structures.
Participants actively engaged in various stages of unit writing and worked on the fundamental principles and practical requirements for producing high-quality teaching materials.
The university said the workshop is part of its ongoing faculty training initiatives aimed at strengthening professional capacity, bringing teaching standards in line with contemporary requirements and improving the quality of educational content.
