Indian actress Shakeela has revealed that years of excessive mobile phone use, including prolonged gaming and watching videos, contributed to serious neck problems that eventually required surgery.

According to Indian media reports, the South Indian actress recently underwent a neck procedure after experiencing severe pain and complications. Shakeela, known for films including Play Girls, Kinnarathumbikal and Thaskaraveeran, shared details of her health condition with fans.

In a video filmed at a hospital in Chennai, the actress appeared during her recovery and later returned home. She said Dr Balamoorgan performed the surgery and advised her to wear a neck collar during the recovery period.

Shakeela said the procedure cost around 300,000 Indian rupees and that she had not yet fully recovered. She reportedly required assistance with basic activities such as getting out of bed and eating.

Reflecting on her phone habits, the actress said she would sometimes lie on one side in bed for around four hours at a time while playing mobile games, getting up mainly for tea or coffee before returning to the phone.

She said she would then spend several more hours watching YouTube videos and Instagram reels. According to her account, prolonged phone use combined with poor posture contributed to problems affecting her neck.

Shakeela said she eventually required surgery and had a titanium screw inserted following severe neck pain and complications.

The actress urged people to avoid excessive mobile phone use and encouraged parents to monitor how much time their children spend on smartphones. She said phones were useful when used appropriately but warned against spending long periods on unnecessary videos and games.

Medical experts generally recognise that prolonged poor posture while using smartphones can contribute to neck and upper-back discomfort, although an individual’s specific medical condition and the need for surgery require professional assessment.
