A 97-year-old woman from the United Kingdom has broken her own Guinness World Record by completing another wing walking challenge just a year after recovering from a stroke, demonstrating remarkable determination and resilience.
Betty Bromage, from Cheltenham, successfully completed the aerial stunt at RFC Rendcomb Airfield, becoming the world’s oldest female wing walker once again.
Record-breaking wing walk at 97
On Tuesday, Betty Bromage, aged 97 years and 127 days, stood on the wing of a moving aircraft during the flight, successfully completing her latest wing walking challenge.
The achievement allowed her to extend her own Guinness World Record as the oldest woman to perform the daring aviation stunt.
A passion that began at 87
Betty first tried wing walking at the age of 87 and has now completed the challenge six times.
She previously set the Guinness World Record in 2022, when she completed the feat at the age of 93.
Returning after recovering from a stroke
Speaking to the BBC, Betty said she enjoys taking on unusual challenges because they make life exciting.
She explained that she can no longer drive and her eyesight has deteriorated, so she prefers focusing on activities she is still able to enjoy.
Betty suffered a stroke in August 2025, and although it continues to affect her speech, she returned to wing walking just a year later.
Flight also raised funds for stroke care
Beyond setting another world record, Betty used the event to raise funds for the Stroke Unit at Cheltenham General Hospital, where she received treatment following her stroke last year.
Her latest achievement combines personal determination with support for healthcare services that aided her recovery.
