A 96-year-old woman has married an 18-year-old man in Mexico, with official statistics revealing a 78-year age gap between the couple.
According to a report by British media, the marriage took place in Othón P. Blanco, in the state of Quintana Roo. The wedding occurred in 2025, but details emerged recently through nationwide data released by Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The identities of the couple have been kept confidential in official records. The reported 78-year age difference makes the marriage one of the most striking age-gap unions recorded in the country.
Other Marriages With Large Age Gaps
The data also highlighted other marriages involving substantial differences in age.
In Morelia, another 96-year-old woman married a 19-year-old man, resulting in an age gap of 77 years.
A separate marriage took place in Xicoténcatl, where a 90-year-old man married an 18-year-old woman.
The cases have drawn attention because of the unusually large age differences between the spouses, as revealed in Mexico’s recently released marriage statistics.
