11th MCAP-BNU International Media Conference highlights media literacy and regional collaboration

LAHORE (Feb 11, 2026): The 11th MCAP-BNU International Media Conference concluded at Beaconhouse National University (BNU), bringing together academics, journalists, policymakers and media professionals from Pakistan and abroad to discuss challenges facing contemporary media.

Jointly organized by Media and Communication Academic Professionals (MCAP) and BNU, the two-day conference was held under the theme “Reclaiming Hope: Media, Activism & Social Justice.” Discussions focused on ethical journalism, inclusive narratives, media literacy and regional cooperation in the digital era.

The conference was inaugurated by BNU Vice Chancellor Dr. Moeed Yusuf alongside Javed Jabbar, Ambassador Mansoor Ahmed Khan, Prof. Dr. Bushra H. Rehman and Prof. Svetlana Bodrunova. In his remarks, Dr. Yusuf emphasized the role of academic institutions in promoting critical engagement with information and responsible knowledge production.

Sessions on digital transformation and regional engagement

Over two days, participants attended plenary sessions, parallel academic discussions and interactive forums. Topics included reimagining journalism for social justice, media activism, digital inclusion, ethical challenges in contemporary media and the impact of emerging technologies on journalism.

A workshop on “Chinese Art in the Digital Age” was also held, reflecting the conference’s focus on cross-cultural dialogue.

Panel discussions highlighted the importance of regional media collaboration, including China-Pakistan media cooperation and cross-border academic exchange. Speakers underlined media literacy as a key tool for strengthening regional understanding and connectivity.

International participation and recognition

The conference featured a wide range of international and national scholars, media professionals and practitioners from across Pakistan and abroad.

On the occasion, a lifetime achievement award was presented to Javed Jabbar in recognition of his contributions to the media and communications industry.

In addition to academic panels, the event included research presentations, career counselling and consultancy sessions, as well as technical and creative workshops aimed at fostering collaboration between scholars and practitioners.

The conference concluded with renewed emphasis on media literacy as a foundation for informed citizenship, inclusive storytelling and constructive regional engagement.
