A 27-year-old woman died after receiving an anti-aging injection at a medical facility in New York City, leading authorities to arrest the individual who allegedly administered the treatment without a valid state medical license.
According to foreign media reports and New York authorities, the woman suffered a medical emergency shortly after receiving the injection. She was transported by ambulance but was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital.
Practitioner Faces Criminal Charges
Authorities identified the suspect as Luis Rojas Cabrera, 55, who allegedly admitted during questioning that he was not licensed to practice medicine in New York State.
Prosecutors have charged him with reckless endangerment and unauthorized professional practice, according to officials.
Court Releases Suspect Under Conditions
The suspect appeared before a Bronx court, where a judge ordered the temporary surrender of his passport pending the results of the victim’s post-mortem examination.
During court proceedings, Cabrera said he is a licensed physician in the Dominican Republic and holds a medical assistant license in Puerto Rico. He also stated that his application for a New York medical license is still pending.
According to court records, the only license he currently holds in New York is as a cosmetologist.
Investigation Continues
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, while the official cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem examination.
The case has renewed attention on the risks associated with receiving cosmetic or medical procedures from individuals who are not licensed to practice medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.
