November 1, 2026: WhatsApp has announced new group chat features designed to help users manage conversations, track important messages and access relevant discussions more easily.
The upcoming updates include a dedicated Mentions and Replies filter and the ability to pin important group messages indefinitely, removing the existing time restrictions.
According to WhatsApp, the new Mentions and Replies option will appear in the chat list’s filter menu when users swipe down.
The feature will allow users to quickly identify group conversations in which they have been mentioned or where someone has directly replied to their messages.
It will also include messages containing the @all mention, which is used to address all members of a group.
The new filter is expected to make it easier for users to follow important conversations without manually searching through multiple group chats.
This could be particularly useful for people who participate in several active WhatsApp groups and frequently receive large numbers of messages.
Another significant update will allow users to pin messages in group chats for an unlimited period.
Currently, WhatsApp allows messages to remain pinned for 24 hours, seven days or 30 days. Under the announced change, users will be able to keep important messages pinned without selecting an expiry period.
The feature could help group members retain access to essential information, including announcements, instructions, schedules and other frequently referenced messages.
By removing the time limit, WhatsApp aims to make pinned messages more useful for groups that need to keep important information readily accessible.
The announced improvements focus on simplifying group communication and reducing the effort required to locate relevant messages.
The updates are expected to improve the overall group messaging experience by making conversations easier to organise and important information more accessible.
