Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram has questioned the grand reception given to young pacer Razaullah after his impressive Test debut against England.
Razaullah made his international Test debut in the third and final match of the series after Pakistan had lost the opening two Tests. He made an immediate impact, taking four wickets in England’s first innings before scoring an aggressive 81 in Pakistan’s second innings.
His performance helped Pakistan avoid an innings defeat in the final Test and attracted significant attention upon his return home. Razaullah was given a warm reception at Islamabad airport, where a large crowd reportedly gathered to welcome him.
Speaking at a charity event in Manchester, Akram praised Razaullah’s individual performance but questioned whether such a celebration was appropriate after Pakistan had suffered a 3-0 series defeat.
Akram said England had not merely beaten Pakistan but had defeated them comprehensively, and questioned the message conveyed by thousands of people turning up to welcome a player with flowers following the series result.
According to Akram, such celebrations could give the impression that Pakistan had become willing to settle for relatively modest achievements rather than focusing on broader team success.
At the same time, Akram acknowledged Razaullah’s talent and said the young fast bowler had produced an impressive performance in his first Test for Pakistan.
His comments focused on the wider sporting culture surrounding national-team performances, rather than criticism of Razaullah’s individual contribution.
