Rawalpindi — In a bold step toward environmental innovation, Wafi Energy recycled plastic initiative reached a new milestone. The company inaugurated Pakistan’s second retail fuel station made with recycled plastic.
Located in Police Lines Rawalpindi, the site reflects Wafi Energy’s growing commitment to sustainable solutions. Consequently, it marks a significant advancement in the country’s energy and retail sector.
To build the station, Wafi Energy used 7,700 kilograms of plastic waste. This amount equals more than 5.8 million end-of-life plastic pieces. These materials were repurposed into durable pavers and concrete blocks. As a result, the site demonstrates how waste can become long-lasting infrastructure.
Previously, Wafi launched its first recycled plastic station in Karachi. That project involved Wafi Tameer alumni startup Concept Loop. Together, they used 6,500 kilograms of plastic waste to build a durable, eco-friendly facility. Therefore, they set a precedent for sustainable construction in Pakistan.
In addition to recycled materials, the Rawalpindi site includes energy-efficient lighting and water-saving fixtures. Moreover, it features digital systems that reduce operational emissions. These upgrades promote smarter, cleaner fuel retailing across the country.
Beyond fuel stations, Wafi Energy continues to innovate. Outside its Karachi head office, the company built a 730-foot plastic road. They used 2.5 tonnes of waste lubricant bottles for construction. Notably, the road has proven resilient against heat and rain. Furthermore, it benefits the surrounding community.
Speaking at the launch, CEO Mr. Zubair Shaikh outlined the company’s mission. “At Wafi Energy, sustainability is not just a commitment — it is a responsibility,” he said. “This station is more than a fuel site; it’s a symbol of our belief in a cleaner, greener future for Pakistan.”
Several dignitaries attended the ceremony. These included Mr. Naif A. Alharbi, Commercial Attache of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia; Mr. Babar Sarfraz Alpa, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi; Mr. Syed Khalid Hamdani, City Police Officer Rawalpindi; and Mr. Imran Gaznavi, Senior Executive Director, Media Relations, OGRA.
Ultimately, the launch of the Rawalpindi site reinforces Wafi Energy recycled plastic leadership in sustainable retail innovation. By transforming plastic waste into durable infrastructure, Wafi continues to support Pakistan’s climate resilience and environmental progress. In doing so, the company sets a powerful example for others in the energy sector.
