KARACHI: Three police officers have been suspended after a viral video allegedly showed personnel from Gizri Police Station harassing a citizen and accepting Rs30,000 in alleged bribe money. Police authorities have ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.
According to officials, the video circulating on social media appears to show police personnel confronting a motorist and allegedly demanding money. The allegations are under investigation, and the inquiry will determine the facts of the case.
Viral Video Prompts Action
According to police sources, the incident allegedly involved officers posted at Gizri Police Station in Karachi’s South District.
The video reportedly shows officers threatening and harassing a vehicle owner. It also allegedly captures discussions regarding the payment of Rs30,000, which investigators will examine as part of the inquiry.
Three Officers Suspended
Following the video’s circulation, SSP South ordered the suspension of the three officers seen in the footage pending the outcome of the investigation.
The suspended personnel have been identified as Constable Raja Khalid Mahmood, Constable Muhammad Ali, and Constable Fayyaz Hussain, a former Army serviceman recruited into the police.
They have been directed to report to the PHQ Garden Suspension Company until the inquiry is completed.
Departmental Inquiry Ordered
DSP Defence Nisar Ahmed Qaimkhani has been appointed as the inquiry officer.
Police said the inquiry will examine the viral video, digital evidence, and official records, while statements from the suspended officers and relevant witnesses will also be recorded to determine responsibility.
The SSP South has directed the inquiry officer to submit a report with recommendations within seven days, after which further departmental action will be considered based on the findings.
