Islamabad:- Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society (HHR) Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari held a fruitful meeting with His Excellency US Ambassador Mr Donald Blome at US Embassy. The meeting was aimed at exploring the area of humanitarian assistance between HHR and the United States. The event was also attended by IDUSAID’s Pakistan Senior Adviser, Humanitarian Aid Mr. James Fleming and Secretary General HHR Mohammad Abaidullah Khan.
President Laghari thanked the United States for its support during disasters and emergencies, saying that the United States has played an important role in helping HHR. He said the United States has made significant contributions to Pakistan’s response to various disasters, including earthquakes and floods, in recent years.
President Laghari discussed with Ambassador Blome how the United States can support HHR’s humanitarian initiatives. He informed the US representative of the previous meeting with the Deputy Chief of the US Mission Andrew J. Schofer, which laid a solid foundation for today’s discussion. The HHR Chairman gave detailed information about the organization’s main programs and activities and highlighted the work being done to support vulnerable communities in Pakistan.
President Laghari expressed hope for the commitment of the United States, especially during the recovery period after the 2022 Monsoon floods in Pakistan. The United States’ support highlights key areas that can strengthen HHR’s humanitarian efforts, health, water and sanitation, social welfare, maternal and child health initiatives, and research for innovation, technology, climate change and opportunity. construction projects and public welfare.
The chairman of HHR emphasized on increasing the funding of humanitarian programs to HHR through collaboration and cooperation between IDUSAID and the Pakistani diaspora in the United States, as well as with the American Red Cross. It also received IDUSAID support for PRCS Clay Led Adaptation projects in Thatta, Badin, Sajjwal and Karachi.
In response, US Representative Donald Blome praised HHR’s humanitarian efforts under the leadership of Chief Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari, especially in helping the vulnerable during the crisis. He also appreciated HHR’s exemplary humanitarian services during floods and other disasters and stressed the importance of cooperation with national and international humanitarian organizations in alleviating the suffering of vulnerable communities in Pakistan. After that, the discussion between the leaders should be continued in the future.
President Laghari presented a memento with HHR Crescent Magazine to US Representative Mr. Donald Blome and the book to commemorate the occasion and symbolize the public commitment to humanitarian efforts. He also invited H.E Donald Blom to visit HHR National Headquarters in Islamabad.
