RAWALPINDI, Oct 7: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, with discussions covering regional security, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, according to the military’s media wing.
The meeting also focused on the United Nations’ role in promoting international peace and security, as well as broader regional stability.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international peace and highlighted the country’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping missions.

He also appreciated the United Nations’ role under Guterres in advancing peace, stability and humanitarian cooperation.
The UN secretary-general paid tribute to Pakistan and its armed forces for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and their contributions to UN peacekeeping operations.
Guterres also acknowledged Pakistan’s continued commitment to international peace and security and appreciated its efforts towards the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
The meeting came against the backdrop of heightened regional security concerns, with Pakistan continuing to raise issues related to cross-border terrorism, water security and unresolved disputes at international forums.
