Two Injured After Car Plunges 400 Feet Into Ravine on Shangla’s Alpurai–Lilownai Road

Two people were injured after a car plunged nearly 400 feet into a ravine on the Alpurai–Lilownai Road in Shangla district, prompting a rescue operation by Rescue 1122 and renewed calls from residents for improved road safety measures.

The accident occurred at a sharp bend on the mountainous road connecting the district headquarters, Alpurai, with Lilownai. According to local sources, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which skidded off the road and fell into a deep ravine before crashing into the boundary wall of the Secretariat premises.

Rescue 1122 Responds to Emergency

Rescue 1122 Shangla dispatched a disaster response team equipped with emergency vehicles and rescue equipment to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the crash.

Rescue personnel provided first aid to the injured occupants before transferring them to a safer location for further medical treatment. The team also carried out a technically challenging recovery operation to retrieve the heavily damaged vehicle from the ravine.

Residents Renew Road Safety Demands

Local residents said the accident site is one of the most dangerous sections of the Alpurai–Lilownai Road and has witnessed several similar crashes in recent years.

They urged the district administration, the Communication and Works (C&W) Department and other relevant authorities to install safety guardrails, retaining walls and prominent warning signs to reduce the risk of future accidents.

Residents said permanent engineering improvements are needed to make the mountainous route safer for commuters and prevent further injuries and damage
