ISLAMABAD: The Turkish Defence Minister visit to Pakistan has reinforced bilateral cooperation in defence, trade, and strategic sectors. Minister of National Defence of Türkiye, Yasar Güler, completed a three-day official visit from 8–10 September, focusing on stronger ties between the two brotherly nations.
Turkish Defence Minister Visit and High-Level Engagements
During his stay, Minister Güler led the Turkish delegation at the 16th Pakistan–Türkiye Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC). He also held separate meetings with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
The prime minister emphasized enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, IT, agriculture, energy, and education. Defence discussions highlighted cooperation in research, technology, and training. These meetings reflected a shared commitment to strengthen long-term strategic relations.
Joint Ministerial Commission Highlights
The JMC, co-chaired by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Minister Güler, reviewed the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) agenda. It provided an opportunity to follow up on bilateral projects and ensure timely progress.
Key outcomes included cooperation in pharmaceuticals, transport, e-commerce, mining, media, and tourism. Both sides agreed that expanding collaboration in these areas could generate mutual benefits and economic growth.
Expanding Pakistan–Türkiye Partnership
The Turkish Defence Minister visit also advanced people-to-people exchanges. Cultural and educational initiatives were discussed alongside defence partnerships. Furthermore, both sides reaffirmed their intent to transform fraternal relations into a multifaceted strategic partnership.
By reviewing existing cooperation and setting new priorities, Pakistan and Türkiye continue to strengthen their alliance. This visit marked another step toward building a resilient partnership based on trust, shared values, and mutual prosperity.
