WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced that the Board of Peace has reached an agreement outlining the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, followed by a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.
Trump said the development marks a major step toward implementing his 20-point Gaza peace plan, describing the reported agreement as a significant move toward establishing long-term peace and security in the region.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the disarmament process would be carried out in phases, with Israeli forces withdrawing from Gaza as progress is made.
“Today, the Board of Peace reached a historic agreement regarding the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza,” Trump said, calling it an important milestone in efforts to end the conflict.
Gaza Administration to Shift to New Palestinian Government
Trump said the arrangement would eventually lead to Gaza being administered by a new Palestinian government that would work closely with the Board of Peace to support the Palestinian population.
He said the future governing structure would focus on rebuilding Gaza and ensuring stability, while international partners would play a role in maintaining security and supporting civilian needs.
The US president added that Israel would receive the security guarantees it “deserves” under the proposed framework and that Gaza would not be allowed to become a base for future attacks.
“Israel will receive the same security that it is entitled to, and Gaza will not be allowed to be used as a launching ground for terrorist attacks again,” Trump said.
International Force to Maintain Security in Gaza
Trump said an international stabilization force, working alongside a new Palestinian police force, would oversee security and public order in Gaza.
According to the US president, the force would help protect civilians, maintain stability and support the transition toward a new administrative structure in the territory.
He said the reported agreement represents a major development compared with the situation a year earlier, when Gaza was facing intense fighting, a humanitarian crisis and hostage-related challenges.
Trump thanked Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their mediation efforts, along with his team for helping advance what he described as a historic breakthrough.
Israel and Hamas Yet to Confirm Agreement
Despite Trump’s announcement, it remains unclear whether Israel and Hamas have formally approved the reported arrangement.
Neither side immediately issued an official response following the US president’s statement.
Reuters reported that significant progress had been made during talks between mediators and Hamas representatives in Cairo. However, an Israeli official reportedly said some of the proposed terms did not meet Israel’s expectations.
The Times of Israel, citing sources, reported that mediators and Hamas negotiators had reached an understanding on the framework, while Israeli officials maintained that the proposed disarmament mechanism did not fully address Jerusalem’s security demands.
The development comes amid continued international efforts to establish a long-term political and security framework for Gaza following months of conflict and humanitarian challenges.
