Toyota recalls 106,000 Land Cruisers over fuel leak risk

WASHINGTON, October 26, 2026: Toyota has announced a recall of approximately 106,000 Land Cruiser SUVs in the United States over a potential fuel leak that could increase the risk of fire, with affected owners eligible for free repairs.

The recall covers certain 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 model-year Land Cruisers equipped with Toyota’s 2.4-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain.

According to the recall information, a retaining clip connecting a plastic fuel tube to a metal fuel line near the vehicle’s fuel tank may become dislodged, potentially allowing the connection to separate.

If the fuel lines disconnect, petrol could leak from the system. A significant leak may eventually cause the hybrid vehicle’s petrol engine to shut down, while fuel coming into contact with an ignition source could result in a fire.

Which Toyota Land Cruisers are affected?

Toyota’s US recall announcement identifies approximately 106,000 affected vehicles, while detailed recall documentation places the figure at 105,794.

The affected vehicles belong to the latest-generation Land Cruiser sold in North America, which uses a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a hybrid system.

Although the North American Land Cruiser shares its underlying platform with the Prado 250-series familiar to Pakistani motorists, vehicle specifications and configurations differ between markets.

The recall applies to the identified US-market production population rather than every Land Cruiser or Prado sold worldwide.

Toyota to provide free repairs

Toyota has confirmed that authorised dealerships will inspect the affected fuel-line connections and install an additional clamp designed to prevent the joint from separating.

If the inspection identifies a plastic fuel tube requiring replacement, technicians will replace the component before installing the supplemental clamp.

All recall-related inspections and repairs will be performed free of charge.

Toyota expects to begin notifying affected owners through letters by mid-December 2026.

Owners can determine whether their vehicles are included in the recall by checking their vehicle identification number (VIN) through Toyota’s official US recall lookup system or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.

The recall does not necessarily mean every affected SUV has developed a fuel leak. It indicates that Toyota has identified a potential safety defect requiring inspection and corrective action.

Are Land Cruisers in Pakistan affected?

The announcement is particularly relevant to Pakistani motorists who own privately imported North American-specification Land Cruisers.

However, the recall described in Toyota’s US announcement is specifically associated with certain 2024–2027 Land Cruisers sold in the American market.

No corresponding recall for Pakistan has been identified in the information available for this report.

Owners of imported North American models should check their vehicles’ VINs against the US recall records to determine whether they are affected.

Motorists should not assume that their vehicles are included or excluded solely because they share the Land Cruiser name or belong to the same model year.

Separate from earlier Toyota recalls

The fuel-line recall is unrelated to other Land Cruiser safety campaigns announced earlier in 2026.

In May, Toyota recalled certain 2024–2025 Land Cruisers and Lexus vehicles because their digital instrument displays could go blank, potentially preventing drivers from viewing important warnings and information.

Another campaign in March involved incorrect load-carrying-capacity labels on several Toyota and Lexus models, including certain Land Cruiser Hybrids.

The latest recall concerns a mechanical connection in the fuel system, making it a separate safety issue.

For owners of affected vehicles, Toyota’s free inspection and repair programme is intended to address the potential leak before it creates a safety hazard.
