At least three married women were killed in separate incidents across Swat district over the past two days, with police alleging that the attacks were carried out by current or former husbands. The cases have prompted renewed concerns over violence against women and domestic abuse in the region.
Police have registered separate cases in all three incidents and say investigations are ongoing. Authorities have arrested some suspects, while others remain at large.
Woman Allegedly Shot Dead in Saidu Sharif
The latest incident occurred in the Gulkada area on the outskirts of Saidu Sharif, where a 25-year-old woman, identified only as Suraj, was allegedly shot dead by her husband, Amir Zaman, following a domestic dispute.
According to SHO Saidu Sharif Zia-ur-Rehman, the couple had been married for six years and had two sons. Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, the alleged murder weapon was recovered, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was launched.
Woman Dies After Alleged Torture in Charbagh
In a separate case in Gulibagh Roria, Charbagh Tehsil, a married woman identified as Noorin allegedly died after being subjected to severe torture.
Police said an FIR has been registered against her husband, Ziaullah, his mother, and his brother. However, the main suspects have not yet been arrested.
Former Husband Named in Third Killing
In Khwazakhela Tehsil, social media personality Nabila Khan, also known as Sana Ali, was allegedly shot dead by her former husband, Isa Khan, and his brother, Umar Bacha.
Police said Umar Bacha has been arrested, while Isa Khan remains at large. Raids are continuing to locate and arrest the remaining suspect.
Rights Groups Call for Swift Justice
The three killings within two days have renewed attention on violence against women in Swat. Women’s rights organisations expressed concern over the incidents and urged authorities to conduct prompt investigations, arrest all suspects, and strengthen measures to protect women from domestic violence.
