KARACHI: Another suspected case of mpox has been reported in Sindh, with a 50-year-old man from Nawabshah transferred to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital in NIPA in critical condition.

According to hospital authorities, the patient developed spots and lesions on his hands and feet, prompting doctors to shift him to the intensive care unit.

Samples have been collected for a PCR test to determine whether the patient has mpox. Hospital officials said the diagnosis will be confirmed only after the test results are received.

The suspected patient had previously been receiving treatment at a kidney hospital in Nawabshah. He is also undergoing dialysis and has other underlying health conditions.

According to the patient’s family, he had been undergoing regular dialysis in Nawabshah for several months before spots suddenly began appearing on his body.

Due to limited treatment facilities in Nawabshah, the patient was initially taken to Jinnah Hospital before being transferred to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital in NIPA for further treatment and testing.

Sindh has reported 43 confirmed mpox cases so far this year, according to the report, with 15 of those cases recorded in Karachi.

The latest patient remains a suspected case until laboratory testing confirms whether the infection is mpox.
