Taxila Court Sentences Ishtiaq Liaqat to Life Imprisonment in Rape Case

Taxila: Additional Sessions Judge Basit Aleem of Taxila has sentenced convict Ishtiaq Liaqat to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 700,000 in a high-profile rape case registered at the Saddar Wah Cantonment police station.

A case was registered against Ishtiaq Liaqat, son of Liaqat Ali, resident of Mian Channu, under sections 376, 386, and 411 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case was filed by the husband of the victim, a resident of New City Wah Cantonment.

The convict was accused of raping his real cousin’s wife at gunpoint, blackmailing her, and stealing gold jewelry and UK pounds. The trial was held in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Basit Aleem under the Anti-Rape Act.

Tahir Mahmood Raja, Advocate High Court, and his legal team represented the plaintiff, while Nadeem Sultan, ADPP, represented the government. Advocate Tahir Mahmood Raja argued that the accused had committed a heinous crime and deserved no leniency. He also cited higher court precedents to support his argument.

After the trial, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 700,000.
