Markets across Talaash Valley and several surrounding towns in Lower Dir remained closed on Wednesday as traders observed a full-day shutter-down strike against the implementation of new taxes in the Malakand Division.
The strike was held on the call of local trader organizations, which opposed taxes introduced by the federal and provincial governments. The shutdown disrupted commercial activity throughout the day, with businesses across the region suspending operations in support of the protest.
Markets Across Talaash Valley Remain Closed
The strike affected the main market of Talaash Valley as well as commercial centers in Ziarat Talaash, Ziarat Bazaar, Kalpani Bazaar, Nasafa Bazaar, Kat Gala Bazaar, Sarai Payin Wala Barar, Shamshi Khan Bazaar, and Bandagai Bazaar.
Shops and businesses remained closed from morning until evening, bringing routine trade and commercial activities to a halt.
Traders Oppose New Tax Measures
According to trader organizations, the strike was organized to protest the implementation of taxes in the Malakand Division. Protest leaders called on the federal and provincial governments to review the taxation measures and address the concerns of the local business community.
The trader organizations said they rejected the newly imposed taxes and urged authorities to engage in dialogue with stakeholders.
Local Community Expresses Support
People from various sectors, including members of the local business community and residents, expressed support for the strike, according to organizers.
The protest concluded peacefully, with markets remaining closed throughout the day. No major law and order incidents were reported during the shutdown.
