Persistent monsoon rains in Shangla disrupted transportation on Wednesday after a major landslide blocked the Alpuri–Bisham main highway for several hours, prompting an emergency response and renewed warnings about landslide and flash flood risks across the district.
The landslide occurred at Dheri Mata Aghwan along the Alpuri–Bisham road, where a large section of hillside collapsed, cutting off traffic in both directions. Authorities deployed heavy machinery to remove debris and reopen the highway, while Rescue 1122 and district officials remained on high alert as wet weather continued.
Emergency Teams Respond to Highway Landslide
According to district officials, road clearance operations began immediately after the landslide blocked the highway.
On the instructions of District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Shangla, Engineer Malik Sher Dil Khan, Rescue 1122 ambulances and medical teams were deployed to the site to provide emergency assistance and respond to any incidents during the clearance operation.
Officials Inspect Flood-Prone Areas
With rainfall continuing across the district, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief) Fida Hussain and District Emergency Officer Engineer Malik Sher Dil Khan conducted late-night inspections of vulnerable locations.
The officials assessed water levels in Alpuri Khan Khwar and Lilwonai Khwar, where a slight increase in water flow was recorded following the latest spell of monsoon rain.
Public Advised to Avoid Unnecessary Travel
District authorities instructed all relevant departments to remain fully prepared for potential weather-related emergencies.
Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive cautiously through landslide-prone areas, and stay away from rivers, streams, seasonal waterways, and flash flood channels.
The administration also urged parents to keep children away from floodwaters and rain-fed streams to reduce the risk of accidents during the ongoing monsoon season.
Rescue 1122 Remains on High Alert
District Emergency Officer Engineer Malik Sher Dil Khan said all Rescue 1122 personnel, emergency vehicles, and rescue equipment have been placed on full alert to respond to any incidents linked to the ongoing monsoon spell.
He said the department will continue monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with district authorities to protect lives and property as heavy rainfall persists.
