Tarnol Press Club Holds Oath-Taking Ceremony as MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan Announces Land, Building

The newly elected office bearers and members of the Tarnol Press Club Islamabad took oath during a ceremony attended by political leaders, legal professionals, journalists, business representatives, and members of civil society. The event also featured several announcements aimed at supporting the press club and addressing public issues in the Tarnol and Sangjani areas.

Advocate Zulfiqar Ali Abbasi, a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, administered the oath to the newly elected office bearers and members.

Anjum Aqeel Khan Announces Press Club Support

Addressing the ceremony, Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Anjum Aqeel Khan described journalists as the voice of the public and acknowledged the role of the Tarnol Press Club in highlighting local issues.

He announced that the government would allocate land for the Tarnol Press Club and that a permanent building would be constructed to provide the organization with its own premises.

Public Welfare Announcements

Anjum Aqeel Khan also announced plans to launch an electric bus service for residents of Tarnol and Sangjani.

He said efforts would be made to seek relief for Islamabad residents from the GT Road Sangjani toll plaza and pledged to raise concerns in the National Assembly regarding electricity billing, particularly the significant difference in charges between consumers using 200 and 201 electricity units.

The MNA further said efforts would continue to address the concerns of Sector C-16 Sangjani affectees and facilitate the resolution of their pending issues.

PFUJ Announces Rs500,000 Grant

During the ceremony, PFUJ (Dastoor) President Sharjeel Amjad Rao announced a Rs500,000 grant to support the construction of the Tarnol Press Club building.

He also said initiatives would be pursued to improve education and healthcare facilities for journalists and their families, along with efforts to provide access to interest-free loans.

Speakers Highlight Role of Journalism

Several speakers described journalism as an essential pillar of a democratic society and emphasized the importance of responsible and independent reporting.

They expressed confidence that the newly elected leadership of the Tarnol Press Club would work for the welfare of journalists, promote professional development, and continue highlighting public issues.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of commemorative shields to guests, while attendees congratulated the newly elected office bearers and wished them success.
