Swat — The bodies of two young brothers who had been missing for two days were recovered from a metal storage chest inside their home in the Tirang Shamozai area of Barikot tehsil, police said.

The discovery has raised serious questions about the circumstances of their deaths, with authorities currently investigating whether it was an accidental suffocation or a criminal act.

Missing children found inside home

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Barikot Circle Said Rahim, the father of the children had earlier reported the disappearance of his two sons — aged four and six — after they went missing from their residence.

Following the complaint, Shamozai Police registered a kidnapping case and launched a search operation.

On Friday, police and rescue teams recovered the bodies of both children from a galvanized storage chest located on the second floor of the house. The bodies were later shifted to Barikot Hospital by Rescue 1122 for medico-legal procedures.

Investigation into cause of death

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death. Police are examining multiple possibilities, including accidental suffocation after the children may have become trapped while playing, as well as the possibility of foul play.

Officials have stated that all aspects of the incident are being carefully reviewed before concluding the case
