Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was arrested on Sunday after emergency measures and governor’s rule were imposed in the province.
PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar confirmed on social media that both he and Sohail Afridi had been taken into custody.
According to sources, Afridi was present at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar at the time.
The arrest came shortly after emergency measures and governor’s rule were imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the removal of the provincial government.
Sources said restrictions had also been placed on meetings with Afridi after the new administrative arrangement came into effect.
The development marks a major political shift in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the provincial government ceased to function following the imposition of emergency measures and governor’s rule.
