SWAT: Six militants were killed, while an Elite Force officer and four local civilians were martyred during a joint counterterrorism operation in the mountainous Shalkho Sar area of Swat, according to an updated police account.

The operation was jointly conducted by Swat Police and the Counter Terrorism Department in an area located along the border of Matta and Kabal tehsils.

Police said an intense exchange of fire took place after security personnel engaged the militants. Elite Force constable Gulfam Khan, a resident of Kohat, was martyred while fighting on the frontline.

Four local civilians—identified as Muhammad Karim, Umar Hayat, Gul Zeb and Akhtar Zeb—were also martyred during the operation, police added.

According to the police account, six militants were killed, while others fled the area following the exchange of fire. Security personnel subsequently launched a search operation to locate the remaining suspects and secure the mountainous region.

The operation was being personally supervised by Regional Police Officer Malakand Syed Fida Hassan Shah.

Initial reports published earlier on Wednesday had placed the militant death toll at four and confirmed the martyrdom of the Elite Force constable, indicating that casualty figures were still being updated as the operation continued.
