MARDAN: Police have recovered 19 stolen mobile phones during an operation against a suspected theft gang linked to a political rally held in Mardan last week.

SP Investigation Maria Mustafa, accompanied by ASP City Malik Bedar Bakht and SHO Sheikh Maltoon Shafiq Khan, told a media briefing that Sheikh Maltoon Police Station had received several complaints regarding mobile phone thefts during the rally.

Acting on the instructions of DPO Mardan, police launched an investigation using mobile tracking technology, technical evidence and other modern investigative methods.

According to the police, investigators traced the suspected thief, identified as Adnan, son of Latifullah, a resident of Peshawar.

During a raid at the suspect’s residence, police recovered 19 allegedly stolen phones, including four iPhones and 15 Android smartphones.

The suspect, however, managed to escape during the operation.

SP Investigation Maria Mustafa said efforts were underway to arrest him and identify other members of the suspected mobile phone theft gang believed to be working with him.

She added that the investigation had been expanded and that further arrests, recoveries and disclosures were expected.

The police official said Mardan Police were continuing operations against criminal groups by using modern scientific techniques, advanced technical resources and professional investigative expertise.

She reaffirmed the department’s commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring the security of their lives and property.
