A Sikh couple was shot dead inside a gurdwara in Mardan’s Babu Mohalla area after unidentified attackers opened fire in a room of the worship place, police said.
According to a Mardan police spokesperson, the couple had been living at the gurdwara and was responsible for cleaning and maintenance work there. The attackers fled the scene after the shooting.
Police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident. Rescue officials shifted the bodies to a hospital for legal formalities.
Police said the area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched to trace the suspects.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victims or disclosed a possible motive for the attack. Further investigation is under way.
