Bollywood actor Shehnaaz Gill has spoken openly about her career, film contracts and remuneration, saying artists should not hesitate to demand fair compensation for their work.
In a recent interview with Indian media, Gill said financial terms are among the key factors she considers before signing a film or entertainment project. She believes performers should understand their professional value and seek payment that reflects their experience, talent and position in the industry.
Recalling the early stages of her career, Gill revealed that she had also worked without payment. However, she said those opportunities did not always bring her the respect or recognition she expected.
The experience, according to the actor, taught her the importance of valuing her own work and negotiating appropriate compensation.
“Money is very important because it also brings you respect,” Gill said while explaining her approach towards professional fees.
She added that negotiations do not always produce the desired outcome. At times, producers accept her requested fee, while on other occasions she agrees to a lower amount or her demand is rejected altogether.
Despite this, Gill said she continues to speak up for fair remuneration and does not hesitate to communicate what she believes her work is worth.
The actor also encouraged other performers to recognise the value of their labour and take a firm but professional position when negotiating contracts and payments.
Gill said success in the entertainment industry rarely comes easily and is usually built through years of struggle, consistent effort and personal challenges.
Reflecting on her own journey, she said she had endured several difficulties to reach her current position. For that reason, she believes every artist deserves appropriate recognition and compensation for their contribution.
