Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi have praised the police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Pakistan Army and other security personnel following the completion of a clearance operation at Kohat Police Lines.
The operation ended after an overnight security action in which eight attackers were killed, according to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police. Officials reported that at least 22 people, including 16 police personnel, were killed and 103 injured in the attack.
Shahid Afridi Praises Security Personnel
Shahid Afridi said the efforts, courage, sacrifices and professionalism demonstrated by security personnel during the overnight operation deserved recognition.
He expressed solidarity with the families affected by the attack and prayed for the safety of Pakistan, its people and security personnel.
Shaheen Shah Afridi also praised the police, CTD and armed forces for their response, while praying for the protection of those serving on the front lines against terrorism.
Eight Attackers Killed in Clearance Operation
The attack took place at the Old Police Lines in Kohat during Friday prayers. According to officials, an explosives-laden vehicle was used in the initial assault near a mosque inside the police compound, followed by an attack on the police facilities.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police said Elite Force commandos, CTD personnel and security forces took part in the subsequent clearance operation. The operation continued overnight before key sections of the compound were cleared.
Rescue 1122 teams also took part in the emergency response. According to its reported figures, 24 ambulances and more than 60 rescue personnel were involved, with additional support provided by teams from Karak and Hangu.
The attack caused extensive damage to the police compound and resulted in a large number of casualties, with injured police personnel and civilians taken to hospitals in Kohat and Peshawar for treatment.
Authorities have continued to maintain heightened security in Kohat following the attack.
