KARACHI, September 28, 2026: Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has stressed the need to provide orphan girls with quality education, proper care, dignity and opportunities for a secure future, describing their welfare as a shared religious, social and humanitarian responsibility.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Mustafa Girls – My Home orphanage in Karachi on Monday, Gilani said institutions established for orphaned children should go beyond providing shelter and focus on their education, personal development and long-term independence.
He congratulated Dr Haji Muhammad Tayyab, Dr Ubaid ur Rehman and the entire team of Al-Mustafa Welfare Society for establishing the facility, describing it as an initiative aimed at creating opportunities for vulnerable girls.
The Senate chairman said the institution represented more than a residential facility, offering hope, protection and opportunities for education and a better future.
He emphasised that orphanages should provide children with access to quality education, vocational and professional training, healthcare and character-building activities to prepare them for independent lives.
Gilani stresses equal opportunities for orphan girls
Gilani said orphan girls deserved the same opportunities as other children to pursue their ambitions and establish successful careers.
He noted that they should be encouraged to become doctors, engineers, scientists, lawyers, entrepreneurs and professionals in other fields according to their interests and abilities.
“Their dreams are no less important than those of any other girl,” he said.
The Senate chairman stressed that providing education and practical skills would help orphan girls develop confidence, become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society.
He said the objective should be to equip them with the knowledge, capabilities and support necessary to pursue their goals without being limited by their circumstances.
Welfare organisations praised for supporting vulnerable children
Gilani also appreciated the efforts of philanthropists, social workers and volunteers working for the welfare of disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.
He said educating and empowering a girl was an investment not only in her individual future but also in the development of families, communities and the country.
The Senate chairman encouraged greater attention to the educational and developmental needs of children living in welfare institutions.
Addressing the girls attending the ceremony, he urged them to believe in themselves, work hard in their studies, recognise their abilities and pursue their ambitions with determination.
He expressed hope that they would grow into confident and capable individuals who could make meaningful contributions to their families, communities and Pakistan.
Gilani also appreciated Al-Mustafa Welfare Society for translating its guiding message of care, education and empowerment for a better tomorrow into practical initiatives.
