Seminar Highlights Fasting Guidelines for Diabetic Patients

Timergara: A seminar was held at District Headquarters Hospital Timergara regarding whether diabetic patients can fast during Ramadan. The seminar was organized with the support of Pinnacle Biotic Pharma and attended by specialist doctors and paramedical staff.On this occasion, diabetes specialists Dr. Rab Nawaz, Assistant Professor Dr. Asadullah from Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Assistant Professor Dr. Shahid Shehzad, Dr. Ubaid, and others stated that diabetes has become a global epidemic. The number of diabetic patients worldwide has reached 537 million. Pakistan ranks first globally in diabetes prevalence, with 33.3 million diabetic patients. In Dir, the diabetes rate has risen to 26%, meaning every third or fourth person is affected by this disease.With the arrival of Ramadan, they advised that diabetic patients who wish to fast must strictly follow safety measures. Those with blood sugar levels above 300 or below 70 should not fast. Diabetic patients should take their morning medication at Suhoor and evening medication at Iftar. They should also engage in light exercise after Suhoor and Iftar, consume simple food, and avoid excessive intake of carbohydrates.Patients with heart disease, kidney issues, or stroke should not fast, as it could lead to severe complications. Doctors advised consulting medical professionals before fasting and always keeping a blood sugar testing machine to monitor glucose levels.
