Rescue teams are continuing a search operation for a seven-year-old boy who reportedly fell into a sewer drain in Rawalpindi’s Westridge area, officials said.
The child has been identified as Wisal Khan, son of Farhad Khan. According to initial reports, he fell into the drain on Tuesday evening within the limits of Westridge police station.
Rescue teams began the operation after the incident was reported, but they were unable to locate the child by night. The search was later paused due to darkness and resumed again.
Officials said rescue teams are now carrying out the search in a drain within the jurisdiction of Shams Colony police station in Islamabad, as water flow is believed to have carried the child further downstream.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about uncovered or unsafe drainage channels in urban areas, particularly during periods of heavy water flow.
Authorities said the search operation is continuing.
