ISLAMABAD — Tuesday, September 8, 2026:
The Government of Saudi Arabia has provided a Rs150 million development grant to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to upgrade classrooms, computer laboratories and digital infrastructure at the university.
The grant, announced in connection with Saudi National Day celebrations, will support the first phase of a broader effort to modernise IIUI’s academic facilities and strengthen technology-enabled teaching, learning and research.
Under the initiative, each faculty will receive a dedicated smart classroom equipped with an interactive smart board, digital podium and Wi-Fi connectivity. Each classroom will accommodate up to 30 students.
The project will also establish five computer laboratories with 55 workstations and a total of 220 computer systems, including desktop computers, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) systems and laptops.
The upgraded facilities will also include CCTV systems, furniture and other essential equipment and interior improvements.
IIUI focuses on technology-enabled learning
The university said the investment is aimed at addressing longstanding infrastructure needs and providing students and faculty with better access to digital resources and modern teaching facilities.
The improvements are expected to support contemporary teaching methods and research requirements while strengthening the academic environment at IIUI.
The initiative is part of a wider improvement programme pursued by Acting Rector/President of IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, with a focus on student welfare and university facilities.
According to IIUI, the university administration has also been working on the phased renovation of student hostels. Regular visits to hostels and academic areas have been used to identify infrastructure-related challenges and prioritise improvements.
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan strengthen academic cooperation
IIUI expressed gratitude to the Government of Saudi Arabia for the grant, describing it as part of the Kingdom’s continued support for the university.
The university said the funding would help provide students with learning facilities aligned with contemporary educational requirements and strengthen IIUI’s capacity to deliver higher education in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
The grant also reflects the longstanding institutional and academic ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, according to the university.
