Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan has become the centre of a religious controversy following her visit to the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand, India. A cleric from Bareilly, Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, has described her participation in Hindu religious rituals as impermissible under Islamic law and advised her to seek forgiveness from Allah.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Razvi, national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, said he had received several queries about Sara’s temple visit and worship activities. He stated that, in his interpretation of Islamic law, Muslims should not participate in the religious worship and rituals of other faiths.
The cleric added that if Sara had taken part in these activities of her own choice, she should repent and seek Allah’s forgiveness.
Sara’s Longstanding Connection With Kedarnath
Sara Ali Khan’s association with Kedarnath dates back to her 2018 debut film, Kedarnath, in which she starred alongside the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Over the past four years, she has continued to share photographs from visits to the Himalayan pilgrimage site on social media, describing the location as a source of spiritual peace.
According to media reports cited in the original story, Sara also visited the nearby Bhukund Bhairav Temple during her latest trip, where she reportedly participated in puja and aarti rituals.
Previous Controversies Over Her Religious Visits
This is not the first time Sara’s temple visits have attracted public debate. In 2018, right-wing groups protested against aspects of the storyline of her debut film, Kedarnath. Her personal approach to visiting religious sites has also drawn criticism from some conservative religious circles on social media.
The latest controversy has again placed the actress’s religious visits under public scrutiny.
Sara Ali Khan’s Recent Film
Professionally, Sara recently appeared alongside Ayushmann Khurrana in Udta Teer, a spy comedy directed by Aakash A. Kaushik. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned more than Rs4 crore on its opening day.
The film also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Sohail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Asmita Tambe.
The religious views expressed in this controversy are those of the cleric quoted in the report and should not be presented as a universally agreed interpretation of Islam.
