ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb on Thursday highlighted the inappropriate language used by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javaid and sought an assurance from his lawyer that such behavior would not be repeated.
Javaid has been embroiled in legal battles for months and has faced arrest and detention in multiple cases related to the May 9 riots, which were launched after the arrest.
She was acquitted in a total of four cases including the one recently filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and granted bail in the remaining eight cases.
On Monday, the PTI activist got a major relief after the High Court ordered her release and restrained the police and other law enforcement agencies from arresting her till Thursday (today).
A day earlier, she was shifted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad on the orders of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapura.
While hearing the plea filed against her arrest, the PTI activist’s lawyer today assured the court that his client would not indulge in misuse of language in future.
Meanwhile, appearing before the court, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan said that the Balochistan Police is not insisting on securing transit detention of the activist.
These remarks relate to the latest case filed against Javaid in Balochistan under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
“[Sanam] Javaid is free and can now return to her province,” the official said.
The court then dismissed the suit and declared her arrest “illegal”.
Speaking to the media at the IHC, Javaid Mian Ali’s lawyer Ashfaq Ali said that the Attorney General had assured during their meeting that the PTI activist would not be arrested in any way in the country.
The counsel further revealed that the AGP said that the cases registered against his client in Balochistan and Islamabad would be withdrawn within two days.
On the issue of the language used by the PTI activist, Advocate Ali said that he apologized to the court on behalf of his client and assured that in future he would exercise due caution in responding to Justice Aurangzeb’s remarks highlighting her use of foul and inappropriate words.
