NEW DELHI: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has secured a significant legal victory after the Delhi High Court ordered the removal of promotional material related to the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy.
The order was issued by Justice Jyoti Singh in response to a petition filed by Salman Khan, directing producer Amit Jani to remove the film’s teaser, posters, interviews, and other promotional content from the internet.
During the hearing, the court observed that damage to an individual’s reputation can be difficult to reverse and said the continued circulation of the disputed promotional material should not be allowed.
According to the court, the film’s promotional content contains clear references that appear to associate Salman Khan with the 1998 blackbuck poaching case and the controversy involving gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The court noted that such portrayals could affect both the actor’s reputation and his personal security.
Salman Khan’s legal team argued that although the actor’s name was not explicitly used, the film’s central character closely resembled him. They claimed the character was shown wearing a distinctive blue bracelet similar to Salman Khan’s, making it easy for viewers to identify the portrayal with the actor.
The lawyers also argued that the teaser depicted the character carrying a firearm, which could create a misleading impression despite Salman Khan having previously been acquitted in proceedings related to the Arms Act.
The petition further alleged that the producer attempted to use Salman Khan’s past legal cases and the threats he has received from Lawrence Bishnoi to promote the film for commercial gain, thereby harming his public image.
Following the ruling, the court directed producer Amit Jani to remove all promotional material, including videos, interviews, and related content linked to Salman Khan, from YouTube, social media platforms, and other online channels.
