Bollywood actor Salman Khan has reportedly launched a multi-phase relief campaign to support families affected by severe flooding in the Indian state of Assam.
Through his charitable organisation, Being Human, Khan has partnered with the Salman Khan Fan Club in Assam to distribute food and essential supplies in some of the worst-affected communities. The initiative began with ready-to-eat food packets and is expected to expand to ration kits, medicines and longer-term rehabilitation assistance.
Food and Essential Supplies Sent to Sivasagar
In the first phase, volunteers began distributing food packages to affected families in Sivasagar, with supplies transported from Guwahati.
Reports said the packets contained biscuits, jaggery, flattened rice, puffed rice, bread, cheese and jam, providing families with food for approximately three days.
The relief teams are also distributing clean drinking water, water-purification tablets, sanitary pads and mosquito coils to people living in flood-hit areas.
Ration Kits and Medicines Planned
The next phase of the campaign is expected to focus on the distribution of ration kits and medicines.
Being Human also reportedly plans to support the rebuilding or repair of schools and hospitals damaged by the floods as part of the initiative’s longer-term rehabilitation phase.
Khan is said to be coordinating the relief work while filming an upcoming untitled movie directed by Vamshi Paidipally in Mumbai.
Assam has experienced severe flooding following heavy monsoon rains, forcing thousands of people into relief camps and creating urgent demand for food, clean water, shelter and medical assistance.
Official figures reported on July 28 showed that around 445,000 people remained affected across six districts, while 28,695 displaced residents were staying in 90 relief camps.
