Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has raised concerns over the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to create fake videos and manipulated voice recordings, saying people who knowingly produce such content should face legal consequences.
Speaking during the latest episode of Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar, Salman discussed the spread of online trolling and the increasingly convincing nature of AI-generated content. He revealed that he has also been featured in fake AI videos.
The actor said advances in AI now make it possible to clone voices and manipulate videos in ways that can make it difficult for viewers to distinguish between authentic and fabricated material. He explained that a person’s voice can be altered and used to make it appear as though they said something they never actually said.
Salman stressed that there is a difference between people who unknowingly share AI-generated content and those who deliberately create such material despite knowing that it is fake.
He called for legal action against people who knowingly produce deceptive AI videos, saying such individuals should face imprisonment. Salman also called for new laws and stronger regulation of social media platforms to address the misuse of AI-generated content.
The actor also highlighted the potential impact of deepfakes on ordinary people. He noted that celebrities may have access to cybercrime authorities and resources to investigate manipulated content, while ordinary individuals and their families may have fewer avenues to identify those responsible.
According to Salman, fabricated videos can have serious consequences for the people targeted, particularly when viewers believe the material is genuine.
His comments come amid growing concerns over the use of AI tools to manipulate the images, voices and statements of public figures and private individuals.
