Bollywood star Salman Khan has spoken out against social media users who target celebrities over their appearance and personal lives, in comments widely seen as a defence of actress Katrina Kaif.
During a recent episode of his reality show Bigg Boss 20, Salman criticised people who use social media to mock celebrities over their bodies, appearance, family matters and personal circumstances.
He said some people attempt to generate income on social media by targeting public figures, adding that making money by putting others down reflects the mindset and upbringing of those involved.
Without naming Katrina, Salman said changes in a woman’s body after becoming a mother are a natural part of life. He added that an actress can work on her fitness when she returns to films and should be allowed to spend time with her family in the meantime.
Salman also questioned why people who may themselves be dissatisfied with their appearance feel entitled to comment negatively on someone else’s weight or looks.
The actor further referred to trolling directed at him, saying that he is now 60 and cannot be expected to look the same as he did when he appeared as the young romantic hero of Maine Pyar Kiya.
Katrina Kaif recently attended events hosted by Mukesh and Nita Ambani with her husband, actor Vicky Kaushal. Images and videos from the events circulated widely online, with some social media users commenting on her appearance.
Salman’s remarks came amid the wider online discussion surrounding those images, although he did not mention Katrina by name during his comments.
