Pakistani actress and television host Sadia Imam has spoken about difficult experiences during the early years of her showbiz career, saying some male co-stars whom she considered close friends allegedly worked against her professionally.

Speaking on Nida Yasir’s morning show Good Morning Pakistan, Sadia Imam discussed her career, friendships in the entertainment industry and the challenges she faced when she first entered showbiz.

Sadia Imam recalls difficult industry experiences

Sadia said there were relatively few female performers when she began her career, meaning that much of her social and professional circle consisted of male colleagues.

According to the actress, she later discovered that some people she regarded as close friends had allegedly attempted to affect her career. She said she heard conversations in which some colleagues reportedly asked producers and others not to cast her in projects.

Sadia also claimed that some of her colleagues were unhappy because she did not consider herself a “party girl” and generally did not join them for entertainment or parties during shoots.

Actress says she was sidelined from projects

Sadia said she experienced similar situations while working on drama projects abroad, claiming that her decision to stay away from parties sometimes affected the roles offered to her.

She alleged that on some occasions she was either excluded from projects or considered for supporting roles instead of lead parts.

The actress said what hurt her most was discovering that some of the people allegedly involved were those she considered particularly close, including individuals who socialised with her and visited her home.

Sadia says experience changed her view of friendship

Reflecting on those experiences, Sadia recalled advice from her father, who had told her that it was better to remain alone than to keep dishonest friends.

She said she did not fully understand the advice when she was younger, but her experiences in the industry eventually helped her appreciate its meaning.

Sadia described those experiences as lessons that changed the way she viewed friendships and relationships in both her personal and professional life.
