ISLAMABAD — Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Rubina Khalid, has said that mother languages are the foundation of identity, culture and heritage, stressing the need to protect linguistic diversity in Pakistan.
In her message on International Mother Language Day, she said safeguarding mother languages is essential for promoting social justice and strengthening national unity. She described linguistic diversity as a source of beauty and strength for the country.
Rubina Khalid said education in one’s mother language plays a key role in ensuring a brighter future for children, enabling better understanding and learning outcomes. She added that respecting all languages is necessary for cultural harmony and inclusive development.
The BISP chairperson emphasized that the programme believes in reaching every segment of society in their own language to ensure equal access to social protection services. She said recognizing linguistic diversity is part of the organisation’s commitment to social inclusion.
She also noted that promoting mother languages strengthens bonds between generations and preserves cultural heritage. “Without mother languages, the dream of progress remains incomplete,” she said.
