KARACHI, Apr 23 — The Roses of Humanity art installation, a large-scale tribute to children killed in Gaza, has opened at Beaumont House and will remain on display until April 27.

The installation brings together thousands of handcrafted fabric roses, each representing a child killed since October 2023, offering visitors a space for reflection on the human impact of conflict.

Installation concept and design

The exhibit features hand-stitched roses made from recycled fabric, arranged to create an immersive environment using sound, lighting and fragrance. Each rose carries a handwritten tag with the name and age of a child, intended to personalise the scale of loss.

Organisers say the installation is designed to encourage public engagement with themes of remembrance, empathy and human dignity.

Background and expansion

Roses of Humanity was first presented in Lahore and later showcased at the Lahore Literature Festival before being brought to Karachi. The number of roses in the installation continues to grow as organisers update it to reflect ongoing developments.

The project is led by Labour & Love in collaboration with The Fundraisers BBS, with support from various corporate and creative partners.

Fundraising and public engagement

The initiative is also linked to a fundraising effort aiming to raise $1.5 million for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund’s Child Amputee Rehabilitation Programme in Gaza.

Curator Nuria Iqbal said the installation uses repurposed materials to symbolise remembrance and resilience, while highlighting the broader human cost of conflict.

Exhibition details

The installation is open to the public from April 21 to April 27 at Beaumont House, Civil Lines, Karachi, with organisers encouraging visitors to engage with the exhibit and its message.
