Brazil football legend Ronaldo Nazário has praised Spain’s collective performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, saying the match showed that success in modern football depends on teamwork rather than individual brilliance.
Speaking to a Spanish newspaper, Ronaldo said Spain controlled the game against Argentina despite winning by only a one-goal margin and credited the team’s overall performance for securing the world title.
Ronaldo praises Spain’s dominance
Ronaldo said he had expected Spain to score more goals but noted that the European champions maintained control throughout the match.
According to the former Brazil striker, Spain’s possession-based approach allowed them to dictate play and limit Argentina’s chances despite the narrow final scoreline.
Messi alone could not change the result
Commenting on Argentina captain Lionel Messi, Ronaldo said even one of the world’s greatest footballers could not overcome a well-organized team on his own.
“No player can do it alone,” Ronaldo said, emphasizing that success comes through teamwork and collective performance rather than individual efforts.
Spain’s style earns admiration
The Brazilian legend also praised Argentina for reaching the World Cup final but said Spain’s tactical discipline and ability to retain possession proved decisive.
He added that Spain had once again demonstrated that collective football and sustained control of possession remain key ingredients for success in the modern game.
