LAHORE: A rickshaw driver has been arrested after allegedly posting a woman’s phone number on a matchmaking app following an argument during an online ride, according to police.
The woman and the driver reportedly had a heated exchange during the ride. Police said the driver, identified as Latif, allegedly uploaded her phone number to a matchmaking platform after the dispute, following which she began receiving repeated calls from unknown people.
The woman reported the matter during an open court hearing held by the DIG Operations. According to officials, a police investigation found evidence linking the rickshaw driver to the posting of the woman’s personal information.
Nishtar Colony police subsequently registered a case against Latif and arrested him, according to the DIG Operations spokesperson.
The spokesperson said harassment of women and misuse of personal information would not be tolerated. Police officials added that complaints from citizens would be investigated on merit and that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
The incident has also highlighted concerns over the misuse of personal information obtained during digital ride services and the potential consequences of sharing someone’s contact details without consent.
